Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Eyedrops

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) eyedrops are an emerging area of research in ophthalmology.

What are PRP Eyedrops?

PRP is derived from the patient’s blood and contain growth factors that may promote healing. In the context of eyedrops, PRP is being explored for its potential in treating various ocular conditions, including dry eyes syndrome and corneal disorders. It has been used for years to aid in the healing of corneal non-healing abrasions and infections.

Studies suggest that the growth factors in PRP may support tissue regeneration and reduce inflammation. Patients have found this especially helpful for dry eye syndrome that has not responded to artificial tears and other medicated eye drops for dry eyes. Severe dry eyes can also result after Lasik surgery because of the cutting of corneal nerves that signal the eye to produce tears when the eyes become dry.

PRP drops are thought to aid the healing of these nerves and reduce inflammation caused by chronic dry eyes.

Dr. Shafer and Dr. Allen have been providing PRP drops to patients with excellent results.
